Last updated: October 4, 2026

Spoilers: this page lists which characters narrate stories in the book and mentions that the in-world Threshing is when dragons choose riders. It does not summarize plot beyond that. Unofficial fan guide.

What is Threshing Day?

Threshing Day is a companion collection of 13 stories set around the Threshing, the ceremony in the Empyrean series where dragons choose their riders. It is numbered Empyrean 3.5 and was published on September 29, 2026 in the US and UK as a 224-page hardcover. It was announced on July 15, 2026, Conscription Day.

One caution: the Entangled Publishing listing showed October 4, 2026 when we checked. Every other source we found says September 29, and the listing looks like an unpopulated entry, so check your retailer.

Is it Book 4?

No. It does not continue the main story after Onyx Storm. Some pages call it the "fourth book" because it is the fourth published title, which is not the same as Book 4 of the series.

Who narrates the stories?

Goodreads lists these 13 point-of-view characters:

Brennan, Mira, Xaden, Garrick, Dain, Bodhi, Imogen, Rhiannon, Sawyer, Ridoc, Liam, Sloane, Aaric.

Xaden's story, featuring his dragon Sgaeyl, has also been reported as available on Yarros's website.

Deluxe edition

The deluxe first edition is reported to include 16 color illustrations by Joe Requeza and to be sold in the US and Canada only.

The Threshing Day website

When people search for "the Threshing Day website", they usually mean Dragonkind, a free web experience at dragonkind.com made by Yarros Ink (Rebecca Yarros's company). It opened on October 1, 2026, the in-world Threshing, two days after the book came out. It is separate from the book. Our Dragonkind guide covers the retry wait, black and blue dragons and more, and our no-signup fan quiz is an option if you do not want to use an email account.

Threshing, in the series

In the books, the Threshing happens on October 1 each year, after the Presentation, when dragons that are open to bonding observe the cadets. Dragons choose; riders do not. Dragonkind borrows that date for its launch.
